COMMISSIONER OHERE ABUBAKAR URGES CALM AMIDST THE DISCONTENT ON THE ONGOING ROAD CONSTRUCTION IN OKENE

The commissioner of Works and Housing Hon. Engr. Abubakar Ohere, has expressed his concern and commitment on the ongoing road construction in Okene main town.

Ebira Community Group had earlier reported on the state of the on going road construction in Okene Eba, Iruvucheba, Ozuwaya, Inoziomi and other places, and the health implications on the residents and market women of the aforementioned areas.

Our corespondents in the quest to get information about the commitment of the state government on the completion of the on going construction, they were opportuned to speak with the commissioner hImself, Hon. Engr. Abubakar Ohere.

He explained the issues and processes involved in the construction and completion of the roads and pled with the residents of the affected areas to exercise patience as measures were already in place for daily watering of the roads to reduce the dust in the affected areas while they wait for the final phase to resume in no time. He further explained that road construction requires expert professional approach before execution,
According to him, the following are the procedures a standard durable road should undergo before it’s completion.”Survey, Compensation of the marked land/houses owners, Scarification, Concrete work of drainages, Negotiation of crash barriers, back filling, Compassion, wetting and ramming, stone base, priming, binder and then street lights”.
As a Fellow of the Nigeria Association of Engineers he will ensure proper measures are maintained to achieve the desired international quality standard of roads in Kogi State that will ultimately stand the test of time.
He also appealed to the people of Okengwe, Adavi, Ihima and Obangede axis to be hopeful that immediately the contractors are done with Okene town roads, attention will be shifted to their regions.
